The stator cover gasket is the seal between the engine case and the stator cover on the left-hand side of the engine. It is a small part with a large job: it keeps engine oil inside the case and keeps dirt, water and trail debris away from the stator windings and the flywheel. Any time the stator cover comes off - to replace a stator, to change a flywheel, to fit a pickup coil or simply to inspect the charging system - the old gasket should be replaced rather than reused, because a compressed gasket rarely seals properly a second time.

Will this fit without modification?

What is included?

How do I know my old gasket needs replacing?
An oil weep or a wet film down the left-hand side of the engine below the stator cover is the usual sign, as is oil collecting on the underside of the cover lip. A gasket that has been torn on removal, that has hardened, or that has taken a permanent set from being compressed should always be replaced rather than refitted.
Do I need sealant as well?
No. The gasket is designed to seal on its own between the clean, dry mating faces of the case and the cover. Fitting it dry to the manufacturer's torque figures is the correct approach; adding a sealant bead can squeeze into oil passages and is not required.
