This is a brand new aftermarket 480 watt stator for the Can-Am Outlander 450 and 570 in standard, MAX and L forms, the Renegade 570 and the Defender HD5 500. It is a direct replacement for the original unit - plug-and-play, direct fit and easy to install - and it comes with the connectors and the rubber grommet already fitted.
The stator is the fixed winding assembly inside the engine that generates the AC current your charging system rectifies into DC. This is an 18-pole, three-phase unit rated at 480 watts, which is what allows these machines to run a winch, heated grips and auxiliary lighting without flattening the battery. When a stator starts to break down you tend to see the symptoms under load first: a battery that goes flat after a day of winch work, lights that dim at low revs, a charge warning that comes and goes, and eventually a machine that will not restart. This unit is wound with the highest grade of copper, insulated to withstand 200 degrees Celsius, and built on high grade lamination materials, and its 1420 mm lead from the grommet to the plug means the loom routes exactly as the original did.

What is included?
The stator with its connectors and rubber grommet fitted. Reuse the original fixings and, if it is in good condition, the original sealing washer arrangement.
How do I confirm my old stator has failed?
With the engine off and the plug disconnected, measure resistance between each pair of yellow wires - all three readings should be close to 0.7 ohms, plus or minus 20 per cent, and should match each other. Then check from each yellow wire to the stator body: any continuity there means a winding has shorted to earth and the stator is finished.
Is 480 watts enough for a winch and accessories?
480 watts is the output of the original charging system on these models, so this stator restores the machine to its factory capacity. Bear in mind that a winch draws far more than the charging system produces while it is pulling - the battery covers the shortfall and the stator replaces the charge afterwards, so a healthy battery matters as much as a healthy stator.
