Stator

Ducati Monster 1100 and Hypermotard 1100 EVO / SP - 2010 to 2012

This is a brand new aftermarket stator built as a direct replacement for the original charging coil fitted to the Ducati Monster 1100 and the Hypermotard 1100 EVO and SP from 2010 to 2012. It is a direct fit, plug-and-play part: the 18-pole core, the three-wire output and the single three-pin plug match the original unit, so it sits in the original mounting position and the loom connects straight up. No modification to the motorcycle is required.

The stator is the component that actually generates the electricity on the bike. As the rotor spins around the fixed windings, alternating current is produced and passed to the regulator rectifier, which converts it into the direct current that charges the battery and feeds the ignition, lights and fuel injection. Because it lives inside the engine case, the stator is exposed to constant heat and oil, and a winding whose insulation has broken down is one of the most common reasons for a Ducati of this era to stop charging. This replacement is built from the highest grade of lamination materials and wound with the highest grade of copper winding, insulated to withstand 200 degrees Celsius. The connectors and rubber grommet are already fitted, and the opposite connector for the main harness side is supplied in the box so both halves of the charging plug can be renewed at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it fit without modification?

Yes. The core dimensions, the three-wire output and the single three-pin plug all match the original stator, so it fits the original mounting position and the loom connects straight up. No cutting, splicing or drilling is required. Disconnect the battery before removing the stator cover, and if you are not confident working inside the engine case, have the work carried out by a qualified technician.

What is included in the box?

The stator unit with its connectors and rubber grommet already fitted, plus the opposite connector for the main harness side. The stator cover gasket and the mounting bolts are not supplied; the original hardware is re-used or replaced separately.

How do I know my old stator has failed?

The usual signs are a battery that goes flat despite regular riding, lights that dim or flare with engine speed, a charging warning, or the engine cutting out and refusing to restart. Confirm it with a multimeter: disconnect the stator plug and measure between the three yellow output wires, where each pair should read roughly 0.7 ohms, then measure each wire to the engine case, which should read open line. A short to the case or a reading well away from 0.7 ohms indicates a failed winding.

Why is a spare connector supplied with the stator?

The three-pin plug between the stator and the main harness carries the entire charging output and runs hot. On older machines the harness side of that plug is frequently discoloured, corroded or partially melted, and a new stator connected through a damaged plug will overheat in the same way. The opposite connector is included so the harness half can be renewed during the same job.
