Stator - Honda TRX 420 Rancher FA1, FA2, FA5 & FA6

Honda TRX 420 Rancher FA1 / FA2 / FA5 / FA6 2014-2021 - RMSTATOR part RMS010-107116

This is a brand new aftermarket stator built as a direct replacement for the original unit in the Honda TRX 420 Rancher in FA1, FA2, FA5 and FA6 specification. It is a plug-and-play, direct fit assembly supplied with the pick up pulsar coil, the connectors and the rubber grommet, so the complete unit seats in the engine cover and plugs into the standard harness with no modification.

The stator is wound on the highest grade of lamination materials using the highest grade of copper winding, rated to withstand 200 degrees Celsius. It measures 107 mm on the exterior diameter with a 42 mm interior diameter and 24 mm of thickness, and carries 18 poles across 5 wires, 2 plugs and 5 pins. The two harness legs run 370 mm and 835 mm from the grommet to their plugs. Alternator resistance measures 0.6 ohms yellow to yellow and the pickup measures 116 ohms from blue/yellow to green, both within plus or minus 20 per cent. Every unit is tested before it is shipped.

The Rancher works hard at low revs with the engine cover buried in mud and water, which is exactly the environment that eventually cooks a stator winding. Once a phase shorts to the laminations or goes open circuit the battery stops charging, and on an electric-shift FA machine a weak charging system quickly turns into shift and starting problems as well. Fitting a stator wound to a 200 degree Celsius rating restores full output with a better heat margin than the original.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this stator fit without modification?

Yes. It is a plug-and-play direct replacement for the original unit on the Honda TRX 420 Rancher FA1, FA2, FA5 and FA6 from 2014 to 2021. The connectors and rubber grommet are supplied, so nothing on the machine harness needs to be cut or spliced. Confirm the OEM number 31120-HR3-A61 against your original unit before ordering.

What is included?

The stator, the pick up pulsar coil, the connectors and the rubber grommet, supplied as a complete assembly.

How do I know my old stator has failed?

The usual signs are a battery that will not hold charge, dim lights at idle, and on the electric-shift models erratic shifting as system voltage drops. Measured with a multimeter, the alternator should read about 0.6 ohms yellow to yellow and the pickup about 116 ohms from blue/yellow to green, both within plus or minus 20 per cent. An open circuit reading, or continuity between a winding and the engine case, confirms the stator has gone.

Why does this stator have two different harness lengths?

The assembly runs two legs out of the rubber grommet, one 370 mm long and one 835 mm long, so that the charging plug and the pickup plug each reach their own connector on the standard Rancher loom. Both are supplied fitted and to length, so the routing matches the original.
