A brand new aftermarket stator, supplied as a direct replacement for the original charging coil assembly on the Honda VT 700 and VT 800 Shadow. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit, built on the highest grade of lamination materials and wound with the highest grade of copper, which is rated to withstand 200 degrees Celsius. Will it fit without modification?
Yes. It is a direct replacement for the original unit on the VT 700 Shadow of 1986 and 1987 and the VT 800 Shadow of 1988. It mounts in the standard position and uses the standard three-pin connector, so no modification to the loom is required.
What is included?
The stator, the connectors, the rubber grommet and the opposite connector for the main harness side, so both halves of the plug can be renewed together.
How can I check that the old stator has failed?
A battery that goes flat on a run, headlamp brightness that follows engine speed, and a machine that will not restart once switched off are the classic signs. With the engine off and the plug disconnected, measure between each pair of yellow wires: the reading should be 0.9 ohms +/- 20%. An open circuit, a shorted phase, or any continuity between a yellow wire and the stator body means the winding has broken down.
Does the same stator cover both the VT 700 and the VT 800?
Yes. Honda used the same charging coil assembly on the VT 700 Shadow for 1986 and 1987 and carried it over to the VT 800 Shadow for 1988, under OEM reference 31120-MK7-005. Checking that number against your original unit is the quickest way to confirm the fit.
