How do I know my old stator has failed?
Measure the resistance between each of the three white wires with the stator unplugged. RMSTATOR specify 0.4 ohms +/-20% between each pair on this unit, so an open circuit, a short to the engine case, or a reading well outside that figure points at a failed stator. A battery that will not stay charged with a known-good regulator is the other common symptom.
Why is the copper winding temperature rating important?
A stator sits in hot oil inside the engine case. The winding on this unit is resistant to 200 degrees Celsius, which is what allows it to survive the conditions that break down lower grade windings and cause a short between turns.
