This is a brand new aftermarket stator for the 15 to 20 amp charging system used across the Kohler lawn and garden engine range, covering the CH11 to CH25 and CV11 to CV22 twins as well as the older K181, K241, K301 to K341 singles and the KT17 and KT19 twins. It is built to replace the original 237878-S type stator that sits under the flywheel, and it uses the same mounting arrangement and the same two-wire output so it drops into the standard position.
The core is made from the highest grade lamination materials and the windings are the highest grade copper, resistant to 200 degrees Celsius. It is built to replace the original 237878-S type stator and uses the same mounting and the same two-wire output, so no modification is needed. Kohler used this charging stator across a very wide range of engines, so the safest check is to read the part number off the unit you are removing and match it against the cross reference table above.
How do I tell whether my old stator has failed?
Disconnect the two output leads and measure the resistance between them. The reading should be 0.4 ohms plus or minus 20 per cent. Then check between either lead and the engine block, where there should be no continuity. An open circuit, a very high reading, or continuity to earth all confirm the stator has gone. A battery that goes flat over a few hours of mowing is the usual first symptom.
Which output does this stator give?
It is the 15 to 20 amp unit. Kohler also fitted lower output charging stators to some engines in these families, so check the amperage of the system you are working on before ordering.
How long are the leads?
