This is a brand new aftermarket stator assembly built as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted to the Suzuki DR 650 S between 1990 and 1993. Do I need to modify the wiring to fit this?
No. It is a plug-and-play, direct fit replacement that uses the factory nine-pin connector and the original mounting holes. Route the pick-up coil lead the same way the original was routed and refit the rubber grommet in the case.
Is the pick-up pulsar coil included?
Yes. The pick-up pulsar coil is supplied already fitted to the assembly, along with the connector and the rubber grommet, so nothing needs to be transferred from the old unit.
How do I test my old stator before ordering?
Unplug the connector and measure across the three white alternator wires - each pair should read about 2.3 ohms, plus or minus 20 per cent. Blue to green is the pick-up coil at about 200 ohms, and brown to green is the source coil at about 300 ohms, both plus or minus 20 per cent. Any open circuit, any short to the engine case, or a reading well outside those figures means the unit has failed.
My DR 650 has spark but will not charge. Is this the right part?
Very likely, but check the regulator rectifier as well. The alternator windings on this stator feed the regulator rectifier, and a failure in either can leave the battery flat. Measuring the white-to-white resistance is the quickest way to tell them apart.
