How do I know the old stator has failed?
A failing stator normally shows as a battery that will not stay charged, dimming lights, or a machine that cuts out or will not start. The quickest check is a resistance test at the plug: the alternator windings should read about 0.5 ohms black to black, and the pickup coil about 209 ohms white to blue, both within 20 per cent. A reading far outside those figures, or continuity to the stator body, indicates a failed winding.
Do I need to replace the pickup coil separately?
No. The pickup pulsar coil is part of this assembly and is supplied already fitted, so the ignition trigger is renewed at the same time as the charging windings. That matters because the pickup coil sits in the same oil and heat environment as the stator and often degrades alongside it.
