A brand new aftermarket stator, supplied as a direct replacement for the original charging coil assembly on the air-cooled Yamaha Virago range. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit, built on the highest grade of lamination materials and wound with the highest grade of copper, which is rated to withstand 200 degrees Celsius. Every product we ship is tested before it leaves us.
The connectors and the rubber grommet are included, and we also supply the opposite connector from the main harness side. On machines of this age that half of the plug is very often melted, corroded or simply worn out, and it is a major cause of repeat electrical faults, so replacing both halves at the same time is the sensible way to do the job once. Does this stator fit without modification?
Yes. It is built as a direct replacement for the original unit, so it mounts in the standard position and uses the standard connectors. No cutting or splicing of the loom is required on the models listed in the fitment table above.
What is included?
The stator itself, the connectors, the rubber grommet and the opposite connector for the main harness side, so both halves of the plug can be renewed together.
How do I know the old stator has failed?
The usual signs are a battery that will not hold its charge, lights that dim or flicker with engine speed, and eventually a machine that will not restart once it has been switched off. With the engine stopped and the plug disconnected, measure between each pair of yellow wires: the reading should be 0.4 ohms +/- 20%. An open circuit, a shorted phase or any continuity between a yellow wire and the stator body means the winding has failed.
Why does the kit include a second connector?
The plug on the main harness side is exposed to the same heat and vibration as the stator lead, and on a Virago of this age it is frequently melted, corroded or loose. Fitting the supplied opposite connector at the same time removes the most common cause of a repeat charging fault after a stator change.
