Will this stator fit without modification?
Yes. It is a plug-and-play direct fit for the listed models. The outer diameter of 97 mm, the inner bore of 37 mm and the 14 mm thickness match the original, and the two plugs with five pins between them mate with the standard loom. No cutting or splicing is needed. Confirm the number on your original unit against the cross reference table before ordering.
What is included?
The stator assembly with the pick-up pulsar coil already fitted, plus the connector. The flywheel, the rotor, the stator cover and its gasket are not supplied and should be reused from your machine.
How do I tell whether my old stator has failed?
Set a multimeter to ohms and measure between the White charging wires: a healthy alternator winding reads about 0.4 ohms, within plus or minus 20 per cent. Then measure the pickup circuit between the Black and White wires, which should read about 250 ohms on the same tolerance. Also check every wire against the stator body - any continuity to earth means a winding has shorted and the stator must be replaced. A flat battery that will not hold charge, dim lights at high revs, or a machine that will not start when hot are the usual symptoms.
Why does the winding temperature rating matter on a YFZ 450?
The stator sits inside the engine case in hot oil, and a sport quad ridden hard runs hotter than a trail machine. Copper windings insulated to 200 degrees Celsius resist the varnish breakdown that causes turn-to-turn shorts, which is the most common way a stator dies on this engine.
