How do I check my old stator?
Two measurements cover it. The alternator windings, taken White to White across each pair, should read about 0.8 ohms, plus or minus 20 per cent. The pickup, taken Blue to Yellow, should read about 221 ohms, plus or minus 20 per cent. Open circuits, readings well outside those figures, or continuity to the stator body all indicate failure.
Why does it have two plugs?
The five wires leave the engine as two separate circuits: the three alternator output wires and the two pickup wires. They terminate in two plugs, matching the original layout, so each connects to its own point on the loom.
