This is a brand new stator crankcase cover gasket for Yamaha FZ1, FZS1, YZF R1 and FZ8 models. It seals the joint between the left-hand crankcase and the stator cover, keeping engine oil inside the cases and dirt and water out of the charging system. Whenever the stator cover is removed - to change a stator, to fit a new flywheel, or simply to inspect the charging side of the engine - the original gasket is destroyed on removal and must be replaced. Refitting a cover onto a used, crushed or torn gasket is the most common cause of a weeping stator cover.
The gasket is supplied as a direct replacement for the original Yamaha item and matches the OEM outline, bolt hole pattern and thickness, so the cover pulls down evenly without needing sealant or trimming. What is included?
One brand new stator crankcase cover gasket. Cover bolts, the stator itself and any other engine parts are not included.
How do I know the old gasket has failed?
The usual signs are an oil film or drips along the lower edge of the stator cover, oil creeping down the left-hand side of the engine cases, or a gasket that has visibly split, hardened or stuck to the cover when it was last removed. A gasket that has already been compressed once will rarely seal a second time.
Do I need a new gasket if I am only changing the stator?
Yes. The stator is bolted to the inside of the cover, so the cover has to come off to reach it and the old gasket is disturbed in the process. Fitting a fresh gasket at the same time is the only reliable way to keep the joint oil tight afterwards.
