How do I tell whether my old stator has failed?
On these bikes a failed stator or pickup usually shows as no spark, an intermittent spark that comes and goes as the engine warms, or a machine that will not run consistently. Confirm it with a meter: the pickup coil should read approximately 255 ohms +/-20% and the source coil approximately 35 ohms +/-20%. Readings well outside those figures, or an open circuit, indicate a failed winding.
Does the extra 20% output require any other changes?
No. The unit is designed to work with all other OEM components, so the standard ignition and wiring are retained. The additional output goes to a stronger, more consistent spark rather than requiring an upgraded coil or CDI.
