Stator for Kawasaki KZ and ZX and Suzuki GSXR
Kawasaki KZ 550, 1000 and 1100, ZX 550 and 1100, Suzuki GSXR 600, 750 and 1000 - 1980 to 2005
This is a brand new aftermarket stator for the Kawasaki KZ and ZX and the Suzuki GSXR. It is a three phase, three wire charging stator that terminates in three bare terminals rather than a moulded plug, so you re-use your original connector and grommet on the new unit. Once those are transferred across it is a direct fit in the original position with no modification and no rewiring.
The unit is built from higher grade electrical components than a standard replacement and wound with the highest grade copper windings, resistant to 200 degrees Celsius, which is the usual failure point on air cooled fours of this era. We also supply the opposite connector, the main harness side half of the joint, because these are often melted, corroded or defective by the time the stator itself gives up, and refitting a new stator to a damaged connector simply repeats the fault.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it fit without modification?
Yes, with one step. The stator itself drops into the original position, but it is supplied with bare terminals rather than a moulded plug, so you re-install your original connector and grommet onto the new leads. Once that is done it is a plug-and-play unit and nothing needs to be cut, drilled or re-wired. Given how many models this stator covers, please confirm the OEM part number on your original unit against the cross reference table before ordering.
What is included in the box?
The stator assembly with its three wires and terminals, and the opposite connector for the main harness side. Your original connector and grommet are re-used.
How can I tell that my old stator has failed?
The classic signs are a battery that goes flat over a ride, dim lights that brighten with revs and then fade, or a bike that stops once the battery is exhausted. With the engine off and the stator disconnected, measure between each pair of white wires: each pair should read about 0.4 ohms. Then measure from any white wire to the engine casing, which should show O.L. on the display. A shorted or open winding, or any continuity to ground, means the stator has failed.
Why does this stator have no pick-up coil?
On these Kawasaki and Suzuki fours the ignition trigger is a separate component, so this stator carries only the three phase charging winding. That is why it leaves the engine with three wires and no plug, and why the resistance check is simply a matter of comparing each white to white pair.
