This is a brand new pick-up pulsar coil for the Can-Am DS 650 stator, supplied on its own so you can repair the stator rather than replace the complete assembly. The pick-up coil is the trigger that tells the ignition where the crankshaft is, and when it goes open circuit or drifts badly out of specification the engine will crank but refuse to fire, or will cut out once hot. On the DS 650 this individual coil is often no longer available from the original manufacturer, which is exactly why it is offered here as a separate service part.
It is built to the original dimensions with a 35 mm bracket centre-to-centre spacing, a 25 mm lead from the coil body to the grommet and a 400 mm run from the grommet to the plug, so it mounts on the standard stator plate and the harness sits where the original did. The coil reads 295 ohms +/- 20% from the green/white wire to the blue/yellow wire. Every unit is tested before it is shipped. Will it fit without modification?
Yes. It is built to the original dimensions, including the 35 mm bracket centre-to-centre spacing, and uses the original wire lengths and plug, so it bolts onto the standard stator plate and connects to the untouched loom.
What do I actually receive?
You receive the pick-up pulsar coil only, complete with its two wires, grommet lead and single two-pin plug. It is the repair part for the stator, not a complete stator assembly, so the existing charging windings stay in place.
How do I tell that my pick-up coil has failed?
Unplug it and measure across the two wires with a multimeter. Green/white to blue/yellow should read 295 ohms +/- 20%. An open circuit, a very low reading, or continuity from either wire to the coil body or engine case means the coil has failed. A failed pick-up coil typically gives no spark and no tachometer signal while the engine still cranks normally.
Why buy the coil rather than a whole stator?
On the DS 650 the charging windings frequently outlast the pick-up coil, and the coil on its own is often no longer supplied by the original manufacturer. Fitting this part lets you repair the existing stator plate instead of buying and rewiring a complete assembly.
