Honda ATC 250 R and TRX 250 R - 1985-1989
This is a brand new pick-up pulsar coil for repairing the stator on the Honda ATC 250 R three-wheeler and the TRX 250 R quad. The pulsar coil is the trigger that tells the CDI where the flywheel is sitting, and it is one of the most common failure points on these machines after decades of heat cycling. When it goes open circuit the engine turns over but will not fire, and when it drifts out of specification you get a weak or intermittent spark that comes and goes with engine temperature.
Honda has long stopped supplying this coil on its own, which normally leaves a complete stator assembly as the only route. This part lets you rebuild the stator you already have. Resistance measured between the blue and green wires is 115 ohms plus or minus 20 per cent, so your original can be checked against it with a multimeter before you commit. Fitting is a soldering job onto the original harness, insulated with heat shrink, followed by setting the air gap to a minimum of 0.010 in. Every unit is tested before it is shipped.

How do I know my pulsar coil has failed?

An open circuit, a short to earth, or a reading well outside that band means the coil has failed. Typical symptoms are an engine that cranks but never fires, and a spark that disappears as the engine warms up.
What air gap should I set?
The coil must sit no closer than 0.010 in from the flywheel trigger. Set the gap after soldering and before refitting the flywheel cover, and confirm the figure against your workshop manual for your exact model year.
