Will this coil fit without modification?
It is a direct replacement for the original pickup coil across the listed Ski-Doo and Lynx models from 1999 to 2020. The bracket holes are 35 mm centre to centre and the lead is 450 mm long with two wires and two pins, following the original. How do I know the old pickup coil has failed?
The usual symptoms are no spark, an intermittent misfire, or an engine that cranks over but never fires. Measure resistance between the blue and white wires: a sound coil reads about 250 ohms within 20 per cent. An open circuit, a near zero reading, or continuity between either wire and the coil body all indicate a failed coil.
Why replace only the coil rather than the whole stator?
On these machines the pickup coil frequently fails while the charging and lighting windings remain in good order. Fitting just the coil is considerably cheaper than a complete stator, and it gets around the recurring problem that this particular part is often unavailable from the OEM manufacturer.
