This is a brand new aftermarket stator for Ski-Doo snowmobiles built between 1995 and 2003, covering the Formula 380 and Formula 500, the MX Z 440, the Skandic 500, the XR 500 and the Forest 440. It replaces the original charging and ignition source coil assembly and is supplied complete with its back plate, so the unit goes back into the recoil housing as a single piece.
The original connector and grommet are reinstalled onto the new stator during fitting. Once transferred, the unit is plug-and-play, a direct fit, and very easy to install with no modification to the wiring. Higher grade electrical components are used throughout, and the copper winding is rated to 200 degrees Celsius so it holds up to sustained running temperatures. Every unit is tested before it is shipped. The assembly carries five wires exiting through a single plug with six pins, and includes both the alternator charging legs and the source coil that feeds the ignition.

Does this need any modification to fit?
No. Reinstall the original connector and grommet onto the new stator and it is a plug-and-play, direct fit. The back plate is already fitted, so the assembly drops straight back into place.
What is included in the box?
The stator unit complete with its back plate. The original connector and grommet from your machine are reused.
How can I tell my old stator has failed?
Measure across the yellow and yellow/black alternator wires, which should read about 0.4 ohms, and across the green and white source wires, which should read about 290 ohms. Both readings are within plus or minus 20 percent. An open circuit or a short to the engine case on either pair means the winding has failed. No spark, or lights that will not come on, usually points to the source coil.
Does one part really cover all of these sleds?
Yes. Ski-Doo used the same stator design across the 380, 440 and 500 class engines in this period, which is why a single part number, OEM 420886605, spans the Formula, MX Z, Skandic, XR and Forest models. Check the number stamped on your original unit before ordering.
