Snowmobile Stator with Back Plate
Ski-Doo Formula 380 and 500, MX Z 440, Skandic 500, Lynx 6900, XR 500, Forest 440 - 1995-2003 - RMSTATOR RM01025S
This is a brand new aftermarket stator for a broad group of carburettor-fed Ski-Doo and Lynx snowmobiles built between 1995 and 2003, covering the Formula 380 and Formula 500, the MX Z 440, the Skandic 500, the Lynx 6900, the XR 500 and the Forest 440. It replaces OEM part number 420886605. The unit is supplied complete with its back plate, so the charging and ignition windings arrive already mounted and correctly indexed on the plate rather than as loose components that have to be transferred across.
The stator is built with a higher grade of electrical components and the highest grade of copper winding, insulated to resist 200 degrees Celsius. On a two-stroke snowmobile the stator sits directly behind the flywheel and endures continuous vibration alongside sharp temperature swings between a cold start and sustained running, and heat cycling is what eventually breaks down the winding insulation on the original. One point to note before ordering: the original connector and rubber grommet must be transferred over from your old stator and reinstalled on this unit. Once that is done the installation is plug-and-play into the standard harness. Every unit is tested before it leaves the warehouse.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this fit without modifying the sled?
No modification to the sled is needed. The unit replaces OEM 420886605 and mounts using the standard arrangement. The one preparation step is that the original connector and rubber grommet must be transferred from your old stator onto the new one. Once they are reinstalled, the connection into the standard harness is plug-and-play.
What is included in the box?
You receive the stator complete with its back plate. A new connector and grommet are not supplied with this unit, so keep the originals from your old stator when you remove it.
How do I confirm the old stator is the fault?
Check it with a multimeter against the figures in the specification table above. The alternator winding should read 0.4 ohms +/-20% from Yellow to Yellow/Black, and the source coil 290 ohms +/-20% from Green to White. An open circuit reading, a near-zero reading, or a value well outside the plus or minus 20 percent tolerance points to a failed winding. Continuity between any winding wire and the stator body or engine earth means the stator has shorted and must be replaced.
Why does the back plate come with it?
On these engines the windings are mounted on a back plate that sits behind the flywheel. Supplying the plate with the windings already fitted means the assembly goes in as one piece, with the coils already positioned correctly relative to the mounting holes, rather than requiring the individual coils to be moved across from the old plate.
