This is a brand new aftermarket stator built as a direct replacement for the original unit fitted across Yamaha's 700 twin range. It is a plug-and-play, direct fit part: it uses the original mounting points and the original connectors, so nothing on the loom has to be cut, spliced or modified. The pick-up pulsar coil, the connectors and the rubber grommet are all supplied with the stator, so the whole assembly comes out and goes back in as a complete unit instead of being rebuilt around parts that have already spent years inside a hot engine case.
The stator is the generating half of the charging system. It produces the AC current that the regulator rectifier turns into the DC current your battery, lights and fuel injection depend on, and it carries the pick-up coil that gives the ignition its crank position signal. When the winding breaks down the usual symptoms are a battery that will not stay charged, warning lights appearing after a short ride, dim or flickering lights, or a bike that simply stops once the battery is exhausted. This unit is wound on high grade lamination material with copper rated to a 200 degree Celsius working temperature, it uses the standard eighteen pole layout with five wires into two plugs, and every unit is tested before it is shipped.

How can I tell that the stator is what has failed?
A battery that keeps going flat, dim or flickering lights and a bike that runs progressively worse on a long ride all point at the charging circuit. To confirm, measure the alternator winding white to white, which should read about 0.5 ohms, and the pick-up black to grey, which should read about 269 ohms, both within 20 per cent. Readings well outside those values, an open circuit, or continuity between a winding and the stator body mean the unit has failed.
Will one stator really cover all these models?
