Water Temperature Sensor for Yamaha
R and RS Vector 1000, SX Viper, YFM 700, V-Max 500-700, 1996-2014 - OEM 8CC-85790-01-00
This is a brand new aftermarket water temperature sensor built as a direct replacement for the original Yamaha unit fitted across the R and RS Vector 1000, SX Viper, YFM 700 and V-Max 500-700 between 1996 and 2014. It is plug-and-play and a direct fit, screwing into the standard threaded boss and connecting to the standard plug, so no adapters, no thread modification and no wiring changes are needed.
The water temperature sensor is a small part with a large effect. It reports coolant temperature to the instrument cluster and, on fuel injected machines, to the ECU, where the reading feeds directly into the fuelling and cooling fan strategy. A sensor that has drifted or failed open produces a temperature gauge that reads cold or sits pinned, a fan that runs constantly or never at all, and cold-start fuelling that is either flooded or lean - and on an engine that is actually running normally. Because the sensor is inexpensive relative to the damage a missed overheat can cause, it is worth replacing rather than diagnosing around. Every unit is tested before it is shipped.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this fit without modification?
Yes. It is a direct plug-and-play replacement with the standard 11 mm thread and the standard two-terminal plug, so it screws into the original boss and connects to the original harness.
How do I know my sensor has failed?
A temperature gauge that stays cold or reads full hot regardless of running conditions, a cooling fan that runs constantly or never cuts in, and poor cold-start fuelling on an engine that is otherwise healthy all point at the sensor. Confirming the coolant is actually at a normal temperature while the gauge disagrees is the clearest test.
Do I need to drain the coolant to fit it?
The sensor threads into the cooling system, so expect some coolant loss when the old unit is removed. Work on a cold engine, catch what escapes and top the system up and bleed it afterwards.
Which part number does this replace?
It replaces Yamaha 8CC-85790-01-00 and the earlier 8CC-85790-00-00. Check the number on your original sensor against the cross reference table above before ordering.
