Stator for Yamaha YFM 50 and YFM 80 Raptor, Badger and Grizzly
Fits Yamaha YFM 50 and YFM 80 Raptor, Badger and Grizzly, 1995-2008 - replaces 4EM-85560-10-00
This is a brand new stator for the Yamaha YFM 50 and YFM 80 Raptor, Badger and Grizzly built between 1995 and 2008. It is a direct replacement for the original Yamaha unit and fits plug and play, with an exterior diameter of 111 mm, an interior diameter of 27 mm and a thickness of 14 mm, eight wires running to two plugs on eight pins. The pick up pulsar coil, the rubber grommet and the back plate are all included, so it goes on as a complete assembly.
The stator is what generates the machine's electrical power and, on these small Yamaha quads, also carries the pick up coil that tells the ignition when to fire. It lives in the oil behind the flywheel and it fails from heat, vibration and the varnish on the windings breaking down. When it goes you get a battery that never charges, weak or absent spark, or an engine that starts fine cold and then dies once everything is hot. This unit is wound with the highest grade copper windings, resistant to 200 degrees Celsius, on the highest grade lamination materials. The winding resistances are published below so you can compare against your existing part before ordering: alternator 0.4 ohms, pickup 320 ohms and source 346 ohms, all plus or minus 20 percent. A spare connector for the main harness side is also supplied, because on machines of this age the harness plug is very often melted, corroded or already broken. All products shipped are tested.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it fit without modification?
Yes. It is a plug-and-play direct replacement built to the original dimensions - 111 mm exterior diameter, 27 mm interior diameter, 14 mm thick - with the same eight wires into two plugs, so it bolts to the standard back plate and connects to the existing loom.
What is included?
The stator with the pick up pulsar coil already fitted, the back plate, the rubber grommet, the connector, and an opposite connector for the main harness side. That last part is worth having: on these older quads the harness plug is very often melted, corroded or defective, and you can renew it while the panel is off.
How do I tell whether my old stator has failed?
Measure the windings with a multimeter and compare against the figures above: alternator 0.4 ohms between Yellow/Red and White, pickup 320 ohms between White/Blue and White/Red, and source 346 ohms between Red/Black and Green/White, each within 20 percent. An open circuit, a short to the stator core, or a reading well outside those ranges confirms a failed stator. Symptoms are a battery that never charges, no spark or weak spark, and an engine that cuts out once hot.
Do I need to replace the pick up coil separately?
No. The pick up pulsar coil is supplied already mounted on this stator assembly, so you are replacing both parts in one go rather than reusing an old pickup that has been through the same heat cycles.
